This colorful rare chalcedony disperses a spectrum of color originating from layers of iron trapped in silica much like water in opals. Apache Nation Miners supply the highly prized agates from deep within the mountain ranges of the Nde Nation. Ancient traditions of collection help join this rare element to the American Gemstone category. Elusive for years as only a trickle to a select few compounded by location and sporadic production of these jewels made them rarest and most sought after by collectors. A variety of agate containing inclusions of goethite or limonite, producing an iridescent effect or "fire" where it gains it's name. Mohs hardness: 7.0 - 7.5 Crystallography - Hexagonal, microcrystalline. Will occur in the Botryoidal formations as seen in the photo above.
