Geronimo Two Apache Ladies Chief Alchesay

For anyone who has studied basic Apache History the name and place of San Carlos, Arizona is one that arises constantly in books, magazines, historical research papers, journals and even movies about the Southwest. We hope this site will help you to understand the Apache people who are a key element in the historic overview of southwestern history.

One of the first things to understand is that the land the people of San Carlos are one and inseparable from each other. This is what the Apache people believe. In spite of all the Apache people have been through, their unique culture and land is very much a part of current day life.

Our rich history and teachings have not been told up until now, and this is our purpose. We as Apache people the "Mountain People" were placed here as care takers of the mountains and land. Our responsibilities to keep intact remaining ancestral lands.
